How It Works

Why the Same Gap Feels Smaller Over Time
The gap is fixed; the ratio is not. A 7-year difference makes one child nearly double the other’s age at 8 and 15, but is barely noticeable at 48 and 55. When you divide the older age by the younger one, the answer keeps sliding toward 1 forever without ever reaching it.

Does the order I enter the dates matter?
No. The calculator compares the two dates, identifies the earlier one, and reports who is older along with the gap. Swapping Person A and Person B changes the label, not the numbers.
How are leap years handled?
The total-days count is exact and includes every February 29 between the two birth dates. The years-months-days figure uses real calendar months, so leap days are absorbed naturally rather than approximated.
Why does the ratio change if the gap doesn’t?
Because the ratio divides one growing number by another. A 7-year gap is 70% of a 10-year-old’s life but only 10% of a 70-year-old’s. The difference stays constant while both ages climb, so the quotient keeps shrinking toward 1.
