One MET is roughly the energy your body uses sitting quietly, defined as 3.5 milliliters of oxygen per kilogram of body weight per minute. How It Works

The calculator converts your weight to kilograms if needed, looks up the MET value for the activity you selected, and runs the standard exercise-physiology formula:

METs are defined per kilogram of body weight. The second is picking a flattering activity label: if your “HIIT session” is mostly resting between short bursts, the true average intensity is far below 8 METs, and the calculator will overstate your burn.
